Enter height and weight to calculate body mass index, its category and the standard weight range for your height. Age and sex do not create a different adult cut-off; they help put BMI's limits in context.
Standard healthy-weight range
At 175 cm, the standard BMI range of 18.5–24.9 corresponds to roughly 56.7–76.3 kg. This is not an “ideal weight”, just a broad screening reference.
Adult BMI thresholds are the same for men and women. Sex and age help explain limitations but do not change the formula itself.
Please note: This calculator is for adults aged 20 and over, is not suitable in pregnancy, and does not diagnose disease or body composition.
Sources: WHO and CDC — BMI = kg/m², with the same standard adult cut-offs across sex and age. NICE 2025 advises caution after 65, with high muscle mass and in some ethnic groups, and recommends adding waist-to-height ratio.
Divide weight in kilograms by height in metres squared. For adults aged 20+, categories are the same for men and women: below 18.5; 18.5–24.9; 25–29.9; and 30+.
BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis. Also consider waist, weight trend, blood pressure, tests, diet, movement and how you feel.
BMI cannot distinguish muscle from fat, needs care after age 65, and adult cut-offs do not apply in pregnancy or under age 20. Risk begins at lower values in some ethnic groups.
